A Journey back in Time

we have ran away and joined a tribe.
where all our worries are wished away
again and again
day after day..

where we will learn how to craft and hunt and dance with such passion and grace
in honor of the moon the sun and the earth.

the sunlight will glisten off our hair and skin
like sparks of light
 in the dead of night..

where time has no meaning, and sleep has no purpose.
powers will flood our consciousness and pour into our universe abundantly..

and we will live forever
drenched with life..

we'll trade our jewels for crafts and weapons and fight mighty wars
with our new bow and arrows.

we'll ride the wind to our destinations

we will pow wow and feast amidst the soft heartbeat of the drum and ancient tune.
on land where there was once trails of tears and blood..

spirits still remain casting ripples of light across our eyes
but by the time we see it,
its already gone.
and secrets whispered so faint that by the time they're heard
we've already forgotten..

we'll laugh with the thunder
 and play in the rain
as lightning strikes at all sides
but still we persist

our heavy hair will knot and grow and reach down the entire river
becoming as one with mother nature..

and we'll build a hut of our very own where we will stay from now on..
where we will be oblivious to the outside world and its evils.

finally free to live as we want
untouched,
uncontaminated
understood.

 and when the night comes
we'll thump to the drums
and we'll dance so fancy
 underneath that magnificent moon.

well...

you know the feeling..

Countryside

Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.  ~John Muir

When I go out into the countryside and see the sun and the green and everything flowering, I say to myself Yes indeed, all that belongs to me!  ~Henri Rousseau

Joy all creatures drink
At nature's bosoms...
~Friedrich von Schiller,

Nor rural sights alone, but rural sounds,
Exhilarate the spirit, and restore
The tone of languid nature.
~William Cowper

I suppose the pleasure of country life lies really in the eternally renewed evidences of the determination to live.  ~Vita Sackville

Nature is not only all that is visable to the eye, it also includes the inner pictures of the soul.

Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.  ~Kahlil Gibran

To sit in the shade on a fine day and look upon verdure is the most perfect refreshment.  ~Jane Austen

time out

there is a patch of woods in a park nearby that you can drive through. everytime we pass it, denver always asks if we can drive through the 'jungle'. a lot of times i will say we can drive through on the way back from wherever we are going, but it seems most of the time in our hurriness to get back home for whatever reason, we usually forget.
today i was running a little late to meet mom for lunch, but i pulled into the park anyways.
it was just a little reminder to myself to slow down and do something he wants to do over being in a hurry and missing out on an opportunity to make him happy. if i have to choose between lunch and a little quality time with my guy, then i reckon i aint all that hungry anymore.

being 3 yrs old, he knows no time, nor does he understand the concept of time, so whats just ten minutes for an opportunity to nourish him a bit more today.  besides, the clock does not tell me when my kids have to eat, they do!
by telling him 'no' due to us being late is only telling him that what he wants to do is not as important.
but it is as important.. to me. there is nothing else id rather be doing than feeding my kids' curious inquiring minds.

so i pulled over, unstrapped him and let him jump in the front seat with me.
windows down (and up and down and up..) and despite the drizzling rain, we cruised the jungle slash rain forest hand in hand, spying on indians and bears and elephants. we saw birds and streams and alligators and even hansel and gretels cottage! my guy has quite the imagination. i figured we'd be more likely to happen upon a gnome, goblin or some faierys, but i wont tell him that.
i think i enjoyed our 'time out' as much as he did. digesting these treasured conversations in this precious childhood that will try and sneak away from me in an instant.
i will forever hold them in the banks of my memory though.
even if the end of our time together were a zillion years away, it would be too soon, and i would still cherish these moments just the same.

its opportunities with him like this that i will not allow to be squashed by school. try to fit this in a bookbag, or a desk or a trapper keeper.

Dearest Nev.

Nev and Paige just before leaving for the Beach Boys concert. 6/12/11

Dearest Nev,
this summer holds so many opportunities for you. I am so glad you are having fun with your cousins. I miss you and Denver does too.
Just remember, whenever your presented with a choice of activities or opportunities, always try to choose the one you have not experienced before, even if it doesn't seems as fun to you as the other.
Sometimes its better to take a chance and experience something new, you will learn so much more that way. The only way to find out more things you like in life is to experience it first:)
I know you will do the right thing.
You chose staying with your cousins instead of basketball camp this week, and it was a wise decision.
It's quality time with them that you will never get back, especially since it will be a year until you see them again. Family is now. basketball can wait.
I hope you decide to attend camp B this year, but you know it is your choice.
do what is in your heart to do.
I love you. I am proud of you. and I trust your decisions.
Come home soon! xoxo
Mama.
