A Side of Country

they say a picture is worth a thousand words..
and i say, an evening in the countryside is worth a thousand pictures.

p.s. dear sally, the countryside will never be the same without you.
you trampled me and stole my food every time we were alone.
i will miss you like crazy my friend.

Twelve

my beautiful amazing daughter turned twelve yesterday.
we bailed out on a birthday party, and instead spent some quality time together cruising the mall,
cleaning up on some bargains, and treating ourselves to Quiznos for lunch.
she decided she liked this way of celebrating over throwing a party, and i most definately agree.
it was a nice day together and we even topped it off with a visit to the countryside.
who says you can't have your cake and eat it too?

Happy birthday my little joey.
i'd say it turned out to be a pretty groovy day.

You are worried about seeing him spend his early years in doing nothing.  What!  Is it nothing to be happy?  Nothing to skip, play, and run around all day long?  Never in his life will he be so busy again.  ~Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Emile, 1762

Summers song

today was one of those days to get out and enjoy the cool breeze.
a day to set aside all those worries of piled up laundry, dishes in the sink and what to cook for dinner.
gonna sit and listen to the summer's swan song while musing on the coming of autumn and its splendor.
soon all this ugly green color will come alive into hundrends of fall tones.
and thats a promise!
the thought alone is almost blinding.
in the meantime we'll just mozy around and bide our time till summer slips away.
and were doing it.. country style.

Countryside

Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.  ~John Muir

When I go out into the countryside and see the sun and the green and everything flowering, I say to myself Yes indeed, all that belongs to me!  ~Henri Rousseau

Joy all creatures drink
At nature's bosoms...
~Friedrich von Schiller,

Nor rural sights alone, but rural sounds,
Exhilarate the spirit, and restore
The tone of languid nature.
~William Cowper

I suppose the pleasure of country life lies really in the eternally renewed evidences of the determination to live.  ~Vita Sackville

Nature is not only all that is visable to the eye, it also includes the inner pictures of the soul.

Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.  ~Kahlil Gibran

To sit in the shade on a fine day and look upon verdure is the most perfect refreshment.  ~Jane Austen

So.. what did you do today?
